Dita Von Teese Inspired Nail Art with Models Own Peach Melba*

Hey, remember me?  I'm that girl who likes to talk about her nails way too much?  Sorry I've been MIA this past week, random work schedule + doing nails at my friend's Burlesque event + being uninspired = one lonely blog.  I have a few new products and stuff to show you over the next few weeks so hopefully I'll get back to regularly scheduled programming soon enough and I might get around to hosting my first giveaway but let's talk about my latest nails!

Cool story bro, I actually had this design on my nails for the past week but with a different base colour but because I was working and poor lighting conditions, I never got to take any photos before the nails started to look a bit rank so I thought I'd change up the base colour of the nail and showcase this cool graphic, but simple design.

Models Own Peach Melba and Barry M Passionfruit (Gellies)

So some of you fashion fans might recognise this design from Dita Von Teese's STUNNING Zac Posen gown from the Met Gala 2014.  For those who don't here's a lil' picture of it

Like I said above, I actually did this design using another colour last week (Barry M Coconut) but the off white didn't seem like the right match for the design so I wanted to try out the design with a peach.  Luckily, I received some awesome nail mail from Models Own which included their new Peach Melba polish (more on that later).  I think the red and peach go so well together and although it's not a match to Dita's gorgeous dress, I think it's closer in tone than my previous attempt.

To do this design, I used the striper brush from the Models Own Nail Art Toolkit and starting at the bottom of the nail, made a curved line up and across my nail.  You can either move the brush or move your nail to make the shape, both techniques worked for me

For Dita's signature red lip that features on my ring finger, I used the same brush and drew a flattened 'M' shape the joined both ends below with a curved line.  It's a little smudged and messy but it's a look I'd like to perfect over time.

When I first saw Dita wearing this dress on the red carpet, I knew I had to somehow translate it onto my nails.  She is one of my style icons and to translate one of my favourite looks she's ever worn onto my nails was a great experience.  Dita is never without nail art herself (she always sports a classic red nail with a white/nude half moon) so I'd like to think she would appreciate my efforts :-)

Peach Melba is one of two new tropical additions to Models Own existing Fruit Pastels collection which are famous for smelling like their monikers.  We all know how much I love Blueberry Muffin from the collection so when I saw that Peach Melba and Coconut Cream (which I'll review later) were being released, I was really excited.  I love peach and coral polishes so the colour of this polish is right up my street.

The above swatch is three coats and I used the new Hypergel Gel Effect top coat to seal everything in but more on that at a later date!  Like most pastel shades, you do need to use layer upon layer of polish to get any sort of opacity but this is to be expected.  The formula is quite thick so you have to be careful that you don't overload the brush too much because the key to getting opacity in pastel polishes without your nail looking like it has about 5 centimetres of polish on it is to use thin coats.

As I've mentioned, I've only one polish from the first release of Fruit Pastel polishes (Blueberry Muffin) but I love it to death.  It's smell is so sweet and fruity, it really catches your attention but with Peach Melba, there is not nearly as much of a scent from it.  The peachy scent IS there but not to the strength that I'm used to with Blueberry Muffin.  I don't know whether it is just the bottle that I got or that my bottle of Blueberry Muffin is especially strong but Peach Melba isn't overly scented, which may be a good thing for those with a sensitive nose.

Overall, I like this polish.  It's a classic peach shade that you can pull out during the Spring and Summer months that surprises you with it's subtle peach scent.  Peach Melba, along with the rest of the Fruit Pastels collection are priced at £5 and is available from Models Own's website now, Bottleshops worldwide throughout May and Boots and Superdrug in the near future.

I hope you liked this post and didn't find it too wordy.  With the influx of scented nail polishes on the market recently, what scent would you love to have on your nails and what shade would it be?  Let me know in the comments below and be sure to follow me by all the sites below to be kept up to date with all things Flails and Nails, until next time :D

PS - Remember, if you love Flails and Nails, I'd love it if you could nominate the blog for 'Best New Beauty Blog' at the Cosmo Blog Awards 2014!

  1. Great design! It looks just like Dita's dress! Peach Melba looks like a great colour too! I love blueberry muffin from Models Own's first scented collection and just like you I found the smell strong, I think it was the strongest smell from the whole collection - not that I'm complaining, it's smells so nice! :)

  2. That's one interesting dress, haha. I love those little lips and the peach is so pretty with that red!

  3. Wow!!! Dita is also one of my style icons, she's so bloody classy!

  4. 3 Studies SHOW Why Coconut Oil Kills Fat.

This means that you actually burn fat by eating coconut fats (also coconut milk, coconut cream and coconut oil).

These 3 studies from large medicinal magazines are sure to turn the conventional nutrition world around!

I love any and all comments on my blog...except spam, no one likes that, so don't be that guy!
